Abstract

This study evaluated burnout syndrome in 238 active Civil Protection officers in Nuevo León, using the adapted Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). Using a quantitative-descriptive approach, the dimensions of emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DPI), and personal accomplishment (PA) were analyzed in relation to sociodemographic and occupational variables. The results showed a predominance of low levels of EE (82.8%) and DPI (55.9%), as well as high levels of PPI (64.3%), suggesting functional adaptation to work stress. Age and seniority were found to be positively related to higher levels of PPI and lower levels of EE. The 24x48-hour work shift was not associated with greater burnout, but it was associated with higher levels of PPI (64.7% of high cases), indicating the use of emotional distancing strategies. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening institutional resilience and establishing preventive mechanisms to preserve the emotional well-being of operational personnel. Age-specific interventions, professional recognition strategies, and inter-institutional partnerships are proposed to comprehensively address burnout in first responders.
