The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of barriers to creativity on the creative skills and entrepreneurial intentions of university students at the Instituto Tecnológico de Sonora (ITSON) in Mexico. In addition, the significant differences existing between the gender (men and women) of the students with respect to barriers to creativity, creative skills and entrepreneurial intentions are analyzed. An electronic survey sent to the participants via e-mail using Google forms was used to collect the information. The study is a quantitative study based on stratified sampling. The study sample is 764 university students. For data analysis, the variance-based structural equation technique was used, supported by the partial least squares (PLS) method. The results reveal that creative skills strongly influence entrepreneurial intentions and that barriers to creativity have not been a constraint to the development of creativity and intention towards entrepreneurship. The study shows that the female gender has a higher positive perception in creative skills and entrepreneurial intentions.
