Typically, small businesses (SB’s) compete with local
businesses and in a stable environment, but this scenario
is more threatened with the emergence of companies
from other countries capable of offering the same at low
cost. To face this, SB’s must innovate to improve their
products, services and processes. In this context,
information technologies (IT) must play a relevant role,
so this research aims to carry out an analysis of activities
related to innovation and the use of IT in SB’s in the
industrial sector of the city of Villahermosa, Tabasco. In
this study, managers and / or managers from 71 SB’s
were questioned. The results indicate that although
companies are considered innovative, the activities
carried out do not reinforce this idea. Regarding IT, they
need to be used strategically and aligned with
management objectives.
