The name of the organization is one of the main characteristics that identifies them. In the stock exchanges,
each of the companies that are listed in these are assigned a stock symbol or ticker, which by certain characters,
whether alphabetic or numeric, represent the name of the
company. The objective of this research is to analyze the
effects of the alphabetical ordering of the stock symbol
on earnings per share and the price to book value in the
companies that belong to the Price and Quotation Index
within the Mexican Stock Exchange. Our results show
that the stock symbol that those companies located in the
first places of a list arranged in alphabetical order tend
to obtain a higher profit per share and a better price over
book value than those that are at the bottom of the list.
