Digital Technologies as Strategies to Overcome Competitiveness Challenges for manufacturing SME´s in Nuevo León

In recent years, digital technologies have provided significant benefits to organizational development. The objective of this paper is to analyze the use of digital technologies related to digital marketing most commonly used in small and medium-sized manufacturing companies in Nuevo León, as well as the strategies, challenges, and obstacles these organizations currently face in their quest for digitalization. An exploratory research study was conducted with a quantitative approach and cross-sectional design. A survey-type measurement instrument was developed and applied to a representative sample of 77 companies. A descriptive analysis was subsequently conducted, revealing that technologies such as additive manufacturing, data analytics, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence are partially understood but not utilized in these companies. Meanwhile, strategies such as modeling and product and service customization are only used in an intermediate manner. A lack of understanding of digital technologies and resistance to change are some of the most significant obstacles to progress toward digitalization. In conclusion, additional efforts are required to mainstream the use of new technologies and digital strategies in small and medium-sized companies in Nuevo León.
