This research discusses food insecurity in 25 rural localities of Altamira, Tamaulipas, exploring its causes, consequences and possible solutions. A mixed approach is used with surveys, interviews, and secondary data analysis to understand the magnitude of the problem, the characteristics of the affected population, and the factors that contribute to food insecurity. The results on food insecurity in the rural area of Altamira show us the degree of poverty they have and the lack of economic resources to acquire food and access to public services, as well as the lack of infrastructure in the area. In addition to the natural disasters to which they are exposed, flooding due to rain, falling trees due to winds, lack of electricity, etc. A set of strategies to address food insecurity is proposed, including programs to support family farming, strengthening of food systems, and promotion of economic diversification.
