Psychosocial Factors and Work Environment as a Predictor of Occupational Psychological Well Being

Abstract

Today we recognize the need to maintain good mental health. Psychological well-being is a key point for work environments. Trends are shifting toward this issue, as are regulations and laws, such as the case in Mexico with the introduction of NOM-035-STPS-2018 in recent years. Small and medium-sized companies often lack an organizational structure that allows them to identify these needs; therefore, this study seeks to provide insight into the factors that can impact the psychological well-being of a group of workers at a small company in the paint and metal finishing industry. This study was quantitative and correlational in nature, using a survey of all company employees as a measurement instrument. This instrument was developed based on a theoretical framework that allowed us to define a dependent variable (psychological well-being) and two independent variables: Work environments and Psychosocial Factors. The results were analyzed using SPSS software and provide an initial contribution to developing a path forward for companies in this sector that address issues of psychological well-being.

Daniel Humberto Davila-Rodriguez, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León

El Dr. Daniel Humberto Dávila Rodriguez is a professor  en la Facultad de Ciencias Químicas de la UANL.

Carolina Solis-Peña, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León

Dr. Carolina Solís holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy with a specialization in Administration and a Master’s degree in Administration with a concentration in Supply Chain Management from UANL. She has professional experience in the automotive industry in areas including Manufacturing, Industrial Safety, Environmental Management and Sustainability, Logistics, Planning, and Materials Purchasing.
She is a Full-Time Professor in Industrial and Systems Engineering at UANL, where she teaches undergraduate courses in Industrial Safety, Operations Planning and Control, and Supply Chain Management. She also teaches at the graduate level in the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in the Logistics and Supply Chain program.
Her research interests include supply chain management, operations optimization, sustainability in industrial systems, and logistics strategy. She holds the PRODEP Desirable Profile recognition granted by the Ministry of Education (SEP) and is recognized as a Level 1 Researcher.
