Human Factors Influencing Project Management Success: Development, Content Validation, and Reliability of a Measurement Instrument

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop and validate a measurement instrument that assesses the influence of certain competencies on project management success within the context of private companies in Nuevo León. Project management success measures the extent to which the practices used to deliver the project influences with the accomplshisment of stakeholders expectations (Ika et al., 2022). The unit of analysis comprises professionals affiliated with PMI in Nuevo León. The development of the instrument followed these steps: 1)  literature review on the variables, 2) formulation of definitions for the variables, and 3) operationalization of the variables into items. A pilot test was conducted with 25 surveys, which were used to validate the instrument through tests such as: 1) content validity (relevance, clarity), 2) language testing, and 3) reliability testing (Cronbach's alpha, composite reliability). The results indicate that the resulting instrument is valid and reliable, with Cronbach's alpha ranging from .782 to .918 and composite reliability ranging from .832 to .923. Therefore, it can be utilized to measure the influence of independent variables on the dependent variable.
